Hello/goodbye to my city

So I’ve finished my first year of university and I’m about to head to the mountains for the summer! This will be my first experience living alone (and my first 4 month summer!!) I can’t wait for what’s to come…

Today I took a two hour walk around my city, just to soak it all in before going my way. I’ll only be here for this next week, buying a used car, then I’ll be hitting the road…

So it’s a little bitter-sweet!

I’ve been treating myself to all the best things about home in the meantime- lunch with my parents, homemade lemon juice  (and lemon wax for my legs!) and walks along the river valley. It’s funny how I relive all my childhood memories as I walk around town. And, even as I’m about to leave, I’m still discovering new things everywhere.

Discovering all these tiny beauties in the place I’ve grown up in just makes me even more excited to be travelling soon…

Think of what I’ll see and do while I’m in an entirely new setting!

Late at night when I’m about to fall asleep, it seems unfathomable that I’d ever leave home. What will I do without my parents already up and humming in the kitchen when I wake up and come upstairs? Until I find a seasonal lease, I’ll have a couple weeks in the mountains without a place to call “home.”

At the same time, that’s exactly what I look forward to. Expanding my world and finding new places to call home…

I would highly recommend freshly squeezed lemonade by the way. Just de-seed one lemon, squeeze about a third of a cup of juice into a cup. Then scrape the lemon’s innards, the pulp, into the cup for an even better experience. I made this in conjunction with some sugaring wax, a homemade wax used to remove hair. I started doing this a couple weeks ago, and it works great and doesn’t hurt too bad at all! There are plenty of how-to vids out there which tell you all you need to know.

For the sugaring wax, you’ll need:

  • 1-2 lemons
  • White sugar
  • Water
  • Fabric strips

I dipped the rim of my mug in the cooling wax, then into a bowl of sugar to make a frosty sugared rim. In traditional Western Canada style, it was sunny our but still snowy when I made my lemonade:

That brought on a solo dance-off to ice ice baby as I waited for the lemon wax to cool.

Anyways, enjoy yourself a bitter-sweet day, and explore some new parts of your life!

Cheers
